Gasly sees strong AlphaTauri: 'Pleasing start'

Pierre Gasly hopes to perform just as strongly during the upcoming season as he did in 2021. Although a difficult task awaits him, the Frenchman showed confidence when talking to the official website of Formula 1.

The AlphaTauri driver made a great impression last calendar year. Gasly has been dropped by Red Bull Racing in the past after disappointing results, but proved to be able to reach a high level with the Italian racing team. It resulted in a great ninth place in the World Championship in 2021.

During the test days in Barcelona, AlphaTauri showed that it is well on its way towards the new season. For Gasly, the days in Spain were also hopeful: "I felt quite confident inside the car and it kind of responded the way I wanted," he summed up in the interview. "Obviously there’s still a lot of things to work on, but it was a pleasing start."

Testing did not go completely smoothly as Gasly could only drive 40 laps on Friday due to a crash in the morning. Despite this, AlphaTauri collected enough data to further improve the car in the coming weeks. The test days in Bahrain are scheduled from 10 to 12 March.
