Gasly makes huge impression: ''He is one of the absolute top drivers for me''

Since his return to the team, Pierre Gasly has been the clear leader at AlphaTauri. The Frenchman would like to move up to a top team soon and compete for the world title, but Franz Tost hopes to keep his best driver.

Gasly was given the chance at Red Bull Racing in 2019, but after just six months he was pushed aside. Since then, he has scored three podium finishes at AlphaTauri, including one win. He is among the best drivers on the grid according to his team boss Tost.

''That third place was very important for him and for his self-confidence. Pierre has always done well, but we couldn't offer him a really good car in Portimao and also a bit in Barcelona. But in Monaco and Baku we bounced back. He is there, and for me he is one of the absolute top drivers, because he gets everything out of the car, makes no mistakes, and brings home points'', said Tost according to Motorsport.com.

Gasly has been linked with Alpine, but Tost hopes to keep the Frenchman at AlphaTauri for longer. ''I hope he stays with us. We have to see now, with the cost cap, if we can give him a decent and competitive car. And then there is no reason to change. It's a Red Bull decision anyway, who drives it,'' the AlphaTauri team boss concluded.
