Max Verstappen was also fastest in the second free practice for the Mexican Grand Prix. The three-time champion was a tenth quicker than Lando Norris in the McLaren. Sergio Perez, Verstappen's teammate, found himself in fifth place.

On the Mexico City circuit, there were some surprises. One example is Valtteri Bottas, who drove his Alfa Romeo particularly well to fourth place. The Finn missed the first free practice because rookie Theo Pourchaire was allowed to drive the car then. At least, he was inside for almost the entire session due to gearbox problems.

Daniel Ricciardo also surprised in sixth place. The AlphaTauri Australian was just three-tenths slower than Verstappen. Lance Stroll had an unpleasant day: the Canadian could not do all the laps he wanted, as his mechanics could not get a stuck tyre off the car. Stroll finished 18th.
