Frustrations with Gasly: 'I tried everything'

Pierre Gasly experienced a difficult race during the Imola Grand Prix. During qualifying, which took place on Friday because of the sprint race, he finished in seventeenth position. At the end of the weekend, he ended up no further than a twelfth place.

Despite the lesser result, Gasly had to work hard for his place. Behind him, Lewis Hamilton drove for a long time. The Briton tried several times to overtake him, but Gasly was lucky that he also had DRS because of Alexander Albon who drove in front of him. He also tried to gain a place. He didn't manage to do so though.

"I tried everything but even with the DRS we were not able to catch that Williams so yeah, quite frustrating," he reflected at Formula1.com looking back on the entire weekend. "We need to go away and work out how to get back to a stronger qualifying performance for the next race."

With only six points gained, Gasly has work to do in the coming weeks to perform better with AlphaTauri. His teammate Yuki Tsunoda managed to get four more points in the first four races. As a result, he is one spot higher in the world championship for now.
