FP1 full results: Bottas and Hamilton fastest in rainy session

After a rainy first free practice at Silverstone, there is little to conclude from the timesheet. Many drivers decided not to go on the track, or to stick to a single lap. In the end, Valtteri Bottas set the fastest time in the changing conditions at Silverstone.

The forecast for the British Grand Prix weekend was for rain on Friday and it came just before the start of the first free practice session. While one sector was very wet, the other was almost dry. Sainz set the fastest time and Lewis Hamilton and Carlos Sainz also set reasonably fast times.

There was a good chance that in the closing stages of the race there would be a lot of fast times, when almost everyone went out on slicks. A spin by Lance Stroll spoiled the plan and the session was halted. Both Red Bull Racing drivers ended up with no time, having failed to complete a full lap in the rainy conditions.
