Nico Hulkenberg is still looking for a place in Formula 1 for the 2021 season and has been linked with Haas, but also Red Bull Racing. Should he return to the grid next year, he wants the Formula 1 weekend to be different.

Monotonous

A total of four hours are spent on free practice sessions on Friday and Saturday, far too much according to the German. "The format is incredibly monotonous," Hulkenberg says in the GQ podcast Nice Am Stil about his days in Formula 1, including the meetings before and after each free practice session. "And if you do the same thing for ten years, then there's no other rhythm. It's always the same, copy & paste. It's a bit of a sleepy feeling with me.”

Take example of junior classes

Hulkenberg looks back on the time in the junior classes with a good feeling. In Formula 2 and Formula 3 there are 45-minute practice sessions, in other series 30 minutes should be enough, according to the German. "I always liked that in the junior series," says Hulkenberg. "Then you were simply thrown into qualifying and then you had to get it right somehow."
