Ferrari's dominance in 2018 was "not true" according to Sebastian Vettel

Sebastian Vettel claims the Ferrari car was given too much credit at times during the 2018 season. He believes his car was never faster than Mercedes despite data and results saying otherwise prior to the summer break.

Lewis Hamilton put an end to the Championship battle last weekend in Mexico. Any advantage that Ferrari had seemingly vanished in the final stages of the season through mistakes or negative upgrades. But Vettel insists they never held an advantage.

"I maybe have a different opinion to the rest," Vettel told Autosport.

"It is absolutely true to say we have a very strong car, but people's perception that we had a dominant car, I don't think it was true. In Spa, we didn't even have the pole, whatever the conditions. We got [the wing] because of the way Spa is designed, with Eau Rouge being flat [out]."

Vettel went on to explain his reasoning. He links back to performances in 2017 claiming that Ferrari have only closed the gap.

"Last year we had a lack of horsepower and that's why the overtaking didn't work. This year we didn't have [that disadvantage], so I was able to keep the benefit from the tow and I was able to pass [polesitter Hamilton]," Vettel added.
