Ericsson: Tyre management will be vital

Marcus Ericsson believes that tyre management will be a hugely important factor in the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. The Swede expects more of the same from the previous two races in which degradation of the Pirelli rubber has been significant.
The race will take place in April this year, two months earlier than it has done in either of its previous runnings which in theory will help with the tyres due to lower temperatures but Ericsson isn't underestimating the challenge the street circuit provides.
“Tyre management will be a key factor, as the degradation of the tyres is quite high during the race,” he said. “It is quite a cool track, with a good mix of high-speed sectors and challenging corners.”
“The race in Baku will be our first street race of the season. What is special about the track is that it features some twisty parts, mainly around the castle.
“The track is very narrow there, and you must be very precise as a driver.

“Another challenge will be to set up the car to suit the demands of the circuit. I look forward to going to Baku, and continuing our strong performance from the first three races of the year.”
