The Italian Grand Prix turned the entire Formula 1 world upside down. Some label the sport boring, but with a victory for Pierre Gasly and the accompanying emotions, those thoughts will have disappeared from most fans after Sunday.
The last time a French driver won a Formula 1 race was 1996. After years of great successes with Alain Prost, René Arnoux, Jean Alesi and Olivier Panis, the latter won in Monaco in 1996. So it was 14 years ago that a French driver won a race and the fact that Gasly now won a race for AlphaTauri hit the French commentators hard.

Lots of emotions after the Italian Grand Prix

Even after the race, emotions were running high. Gasly has had 18 tough months in Formula 1. He was promoted to Red Bull Racing, relegated, lost his best friend Anthoine Hubert, and then made it to the podium in Brazil. Now Gasly won the race at Monza for AlphaTauri, who won their home race for the second time.
That victory ensured that the Italian national anthem was heard on the podium. There was an almighty party after the race! They sang in full with Il Canto degli Italiani (The Song of the Italians) at the end of the race.
