F1 boss Domenicali thanks Zandvoort: 'They raised the bar'

Formula One Management (FOM) has never made a secret of its eagerness to extend its contract with the Dutch Grand Prix. F1 was, therefore, surprised that the organisers had previously indicated they did not want to extend. After new talks and internal deliberations, the Dutch have nevertheless decided to end the Grand Prix at Zandvoort, a decision F1 boss Stefano Domenicali respects.

Commenting, the Italian expressed his gratitude for the work done at Zandvoort over the last few years. "They raised the bar for European Grands Prix in terms of event spectacle and entertainment," said the Italian, who has since seen organisers of other races take Zandvoort as an example for their event.

At the same time, Domenicali explained that as far as Formula 1 is concerned, they'd have been happy to make a new agreement. "All parties positively collaborated to find a solution to extend the race, with many options, including alternation or annual events on the table, and we respect the decision from the promoter to finish its amazing run in 2026."

Finally, Domenicali stated: "I want to thank all the team at the Dutch Grand Prix and the Municipality of Zandvoort who have been fantastic partners to Formula 1". The 2026 edition of the Dutch Grand Prix will be the last. A sprint race will take place.
