The FIA on Tuesday suddenly unveiled the new F1 calendar for 2023 with a record; a whopping 24 races are scheduled. That the announcement came very suddenly is evident from the criticism F1 journalist Ben Hunt voiced afterwards.

Media was unaware of new F1 calendar

The new calendar provides F1 fans with a busy year with many Grands Prix; new events and returning races. For instance, Las Vegas makes its appearance in 2023 and in all likelihood we will see the F1 turn to China again. There are still some question marks and uncertainties about possible cancellations of GP weekends, but the plan stands. Motorsport journalist Hunt, on the other hand, sees major drawbacks in the FIA's sudden announcement. After all, the media had not yet been informed.
In a tweet, Hunt writes: "F1 Calendar has been published by the FIA across all platforms with no heads up for media working in it. It means hotels are jacked up as you will see. Consequence is people, already working long hours, will be priced out locally, adding hours on to a busy working week."

Teams will also start to feel disadvantages

Hunt further writes that people at home will not be affected, but that it is especially very important for those who write about the sport that these things are better regulated. Apart from journalists, sports teams, especially the lower classes, will also be affected. Hunt: "If hotels jack up prices, the teams will feel it too, especially in F2, F3 and the W-Series. Possibly it will then become more attractive to stay in the next village, or one even further. That adds up in a record 24-race season."
Hunt concludes his message with a final lash at the FIA, which in his view is always too slow and late with decisions. "Oh the irony of the FIA being once too quick with an announcement," he said.
