FIA announces changes to circuit in Canada

This weekend, the Canadian Grand Prix is on the schedule. Friday will see the first free practice sessions, with the final free practice and qualifying on Saturday and on Sunday the race. The track this year will look a little different from last year, as a number of changes have been made to the track.

There are a number of changes to the pit lane, for example. Canada's circuit is known for having a fairly short pit lane, which often makes it easier to do multiple pit stops without losing a lot of time. The FIA announced in their preview document for the Canadian Grand Prix that the concrete walls of the pits will be extended by 106 metres. In addition, the entrance to the pits will become narrower, 4.5 metres to be precise.

Other parts of the circuit have also been modified. For instance, the concrete wall and crash barrier in the exit of the first corner have been realigned, and this will also be the case at the walls of turn 7. In addition, the exit lane at turn 3 has been made larger. We are unlikely to see any more scenes like the one we saw in 2019 between Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton this year.
