FIA president open to eleventh team: 'Can't refuse them'

FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem is open to Cadillac entering Formula 1 in 2025, he told The Associated Press. The regulations allow the team's entry.

It has been known for a while that Michael Andretti, son of Mario, would like to join the sport. He would join hands with US-based Cadillac, which is part of General Motors, one of the world's largest carmakers. According to Ben Sulayem, the Americans stand a good chance. "The Expressions of Interest process is very robust and there is no circumstance where we can deny any teams if they fulfil the criteria to enter."

The FIA boss would also welcome Cadillac partly for this reason. "So imagine me saying no to someone like GM General Motors? We have in the regulations that we can go up to 12 teams. I’m not breaking [rules]." According to Emirate, General Motors is a heavyweight that can add value to the premier class. "I don’t blame some of the teams for being reluctant . . . Challenge them with maybe the performance or the financial benefits . . . We believe that the conditions are right for new entrants for F1."
