Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari. It almost sounded like a dream, but slowly the collaboration between the Formula 1 legend and the Scuderia is turning into a real nightmare. This is also how former driver turned analyst Anthony Davidson sees it.
In conversation with Formula.nl, the 46-year-old Brit assessed the performance of his compatriot. He ranked Hamilton as one of the biggest disappointments in the F1 season of 2025. "It hurts to name Lewis Hamilton here. I can't believe I would ever say this in an analysis," began Davidson.
"In Budapest we heard what he said about himself. It's extremely sad to hear that a sportsman of his status doubts himself so much," he continued. With that he referred to the fact that the seven-time world champion called himself 'useless' after the qualifying for the Hungarian Grand Prix.

This does not only affect the driver himself, says Davidson. "For the team, too, that's worrying. Currently, what many people feared is happening," was the assessment of the former driver.

Davidson about Hamilton: 'No one is Superman'

Is there still anything positive to say about the marriage between Hamilton and Ferrari? Yes, it appears so. Davidson named the following bright spot: "You can learn an important lesson from it: nothing is taken for granted."

"No one is a superman, everyone is vulnerable and fragile. Nothing can last forever. It can be so difficult to adapt as a driver to a new car," the F1 reporter continued.
In addition, he said that this has been going on for longer for Hamilton.

Davidson saw him already in a difficult situation before the move to Ferrari: "For me, Lewis has never been the same since the regulations that were introduced in 2022.
"Still, I sometimes see something of that Lewis in certain races. He no longer has that natural feeling and total control of the car."
Although Hamilton has been having quite a hard time with the current generation of F1 cars for years, Davidson still takes into account the return of his talent: "However, he could equally well participate again next year if he stays, keeps his head above water and straightens his back. I hope he succeeds."
