Honda has issued a statement regarding the Aston Martin team following Fernando Alonso’s struggles during testing at the Bahrain International Circuit.
The Japanese engine manufacturer confirmed that a battery-related problem has affected the team’s test programme.
In its statement, Honda explained that it is conducting simulations on the test bench at HRC Sakura before adapting today’s running schedule to match the current situation.

“Our last run with Fernando Alonso yesterday showed a battery-related issue that impacted our test plan with the Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team.”

“Since then, we have been carrying out simulations on the test bench in HRC Sakura. Due to this, and a shortage of power unit parts, we have adapted today's run plan to be very limited and consist only of short stints,” the statement concluded.
The Aston Martin team has logged one of the lowest mileages among the 11 teams so far at the ongoing testing in Bahrain. The team has also prompted red flags on both days of running, with Lance Stroll on the opening day losing control at Turn 11 in the afternoon session.
Alonso, on his part, experienced little respite, suffering a similar issue during his afternoon run on Day 2 at the Sakhir track.

The two-time drivers’ champion pointed out that the team already has a solution to its current woes and that it would be resolved soon. Alonso added that the Aston Martin team will, however, continue to try to resolve its issues before the opening Grand Prix in Australia.
