Max Verstappen has won the F1's Overtake of the Year award for the 2025 season.
After claiming F1’s Action of the Year in Uzbekistan last week at the FIA Gala — where Lando Norris lifted the world championship trophy — the Dutchman has added another accolade to his tally, albeit one that is clearly a consolation compared to the ultimate prize.
Once again, the four-time world champion was rewarded for his stunning move around the outside at the start of the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix earlier in the season, when Max Verstappen snatched the lead into Turn 1 from Oscar Piastri.
Verstappen’s move ultimately edged out another standout overtake — Charles Leclerc’s daring pass around the outside of George Russell at Zandvoort.

Piastri picked ahead of Verstappen sparks backlash among F1 fans

The former Aston Martin head of strategy raised eyebrows by naming Oscar Piastri as the season’s best performer — a call that sparked plenty of debate, particularly given the Australian went on to finish third in the standings after a notable, and somewhat puzzling, late-season dip in form.
While Collins’ fellow pundits had little doubt in backing the four-time world champion, she instead chose to reward Piastri’s campaign — one in which he led the championship for as many as 15 races before surrendering the lead in Mexico.
