Alonso admits: 'We were a bit outdeveloped by other F1 teams'

Fernando Alonso was a regular guest on the podium in the 2023 Formula 1 season, but Aston Martin was disappointed in the Austrian and British Grands Prix. Alonso admits this was partly due to the updates made by rival F1 teams.

At Silverstone, Alonso crossed the finish line seventh, while seeing teammate Lance Stroll finish outside the points. "We weren’t fast enough in any session on the weekend, so it was not different in the race," he told F1TV.

Asked where Aston Martin's strong pace has gone from the previous races, Alonso replied, "It's probably a little bit of everything. Outdeveloped a little bit in terms of a few teams that have brought some significant upgrades lately."

"Track specific - I think here was not our best layout for the package we have. We need to also see the tyres, obviously the first race that we have this new construction. So, things that we need to analyse more in detail. But all in all, I think we saved a very difficult weekend. Hopefully in Hungary we are again competitive," concluded the two-time world champion.
