Abiteboul: 'Ironically, he will have a stronger team against him'

After spending two years at Renault, Daniel Ricciardo will make the switch to McLaren this year. In his time at Renault, the team have made clear progress, especially in the second half of last season.

Renault team boss Cyril Abiteboul thinks Ricciardo will notice this at McLaren as well. Ironically, Renault, which as of this year will become Alpine, owes part of that progress to Ricciardo.

"He has done very well, and the ironic thing is that thanks to him we have become stronger as a team. So he will have a stronger team next season," Abiteboul said to Formula1.com.

"But we're also happy to see him on such a great team and look forward to an exciting battle with McLaren and Daniel next season."
