After the postponement of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, the start of the season for Formula 1 is provisionally planned on June 14th with the Grand Prix of Canada. However, the expectation is that this will also have a disappointing announcement. Martin Brundle does have a scenario in mind in which it is possible to race before the summer break.
In that scenario the entire first half of the season is driven in Europe. It is based on the hope that by that time the COVID-19 coronavirus will have been contained in Europe, so that the teams will at least be able to move within the EU. To make things a bit easier for the teams, they should then start the British Grand Prix at Silverstone.
"I think the whole first half of the season will be ridden in Europe. Seven teams are operating from England, so from an organisational point of view that is the easiest place to go," Brundle says to Auto Motor und Sport.
On the current calendar the GP's of Canada, France and Austria are planned before the race at Silverstone. Also, for those races a spot will have to be found later in the season. Should it indeed come to that, then exactly half of all races are either postponed or cancelled this season.
