During the second and final Virtual Safety Car deplyoment, Max Verstappen went on the radio to report that George Russell had not slowed down during yellows. Red Bull have now filed a formal protest against the Mercedes drivers' actions, and the Stewards have summoned both teams to make their case.
Halfway through the race in Miami, Gabriel Bortoleto parked his technically stricken car bringing out a VSC. It was during this perios that Verstappen asked his team to confirm if Russell had slowed down, since the yellow flags were out.

Russell at risk of losing P3

In 2024, in the Qatar Grand Prix, in a similar situation, Verstappen was being chased closely by Lando Norris. During a yellow flags situation, the Dutchman noticed that his British counterpart had failed to slow down, which brought about a penalty for the McLaren driver.
Russell is now facing the same scenario as the standard 5 second penalty for the infraction would see the Briton and the Dutchman swap places in the race classification.
