Official: Cadillac signs up as engine supplier for F1

Cadillac has officially applied to the FIA to start supplying in-house designed and manufactured power units to Formula 1 teams, initially only to Andretti's new team. General Motors has just announced this. The company has officially registered with the FIA to supply its own engines from 2028.

"We are thrilled that our new Andretti Cadillac F1 entry will be powered by a GM power unit," said GM President Mark Reuss. "With our deep engineering and racing expertise, we’re confident we’ll develop a successful power unit for the series, and position Andretti Cadillac as a true works team. We will run with the very best, at the highest levels, with passion and integrity that will help elevate the sport for race fans around the world."

Last month, the FIA approved Andretti's Expression of Interest application for Andretti, giving the team the license to compete in Formula 1. Whether the adventure actually continues depends on Formula 1. It must decide whether the entry of Americans is attractive enough for the sport. In the meantime, Cadillac is busy developing a power unit.

General Motors reports that work on a prototype technology has now started. The company believes that the development of an F1 power unit will help with the electrification of engines, hybrid technology, sustainable fuels, the development of high-efficiency internal combustion engines, advanced controls and software systems.
