McLaren confirm key update on Norris'and Piastri’s cars ahead of quali

The Woking-based outfit were forced into major repairs following the incident in the earlier Sprint race. Both Norris and Piastri saw their outing at the COTA circuit end at the first turn after they were caught in an awry incident that took out several drivers.

However, ahead of the start of qualifying, McLaren confirmed to GPblog that they are working hard to fix both cars. The team, however, did not confirm whether the repairs would be completed in time for the start of the session.

McLaren added that the damage to both cars in the Sprint was significant and that such repairs are always difficult to complete.

Zak Brown has reacted to the crash involving both Norris and Piastri during the Austin Sprint race. The McLaren CEO stressed that neither of his drivers was at fault for the incident.

The 53-year-old described the collision as amateur driving that took out both of his team’s cars.

Norris and Piastri saw their Sprint race end prematurely following contact with Nico Hülkenberg. The Kick Sauber driver, who had qualified in fourth place, made contact with Piastri, who subsequently crashed into Norris at the COTA event.
