McLaren driver issues social media statement after losing win in Belgium

Alex Dunne went from hero to heartbreak in a matter of moments at Spa last weekend.

The young Irish talent, part of McLaren’s driver development program, was denied of his win in the F2 feature race following an infringement of the start set-up procedure during the formation lap.

The ten-second penalty dropped him from first to ninth place. To make matters worse, Dunne also lost the championship lead—something he would have claimed had the victory stood.

Things went even worse for Arvid Lindblad, another rising talent—this time from the Red Bull Junior Program—who was disqualified from the race.

Commenting on the lost victory at Spa, Dunne wrote on his Instagram profile: ''Definitely hurts to have the win taken away for something that has absolutely zero affect on the race, we dominated the whole weekend and were untouchable in all conditions.''

''Massive thank you to Rodin Motorsport for doing an amazing job once again, we’ll put it right next week at Budapest,'' he concluded.

The new championship leader is now Leonardo Fornaroli, with the Italian holding a 3-point lead over Verschoor and 9 over Crawford. Dunne sits fourth, now 11 points off the top.
