Oscar Piastri believes Red Bull Racing "clearly broke" the Formula 1 rules if they used the device which has forced changes to the RB20 after talks with the FIA. The McLaren driver stressed it is not a "grey area" and goes beyond pushing the boundaries.

Piastri unhappy about Red Bull controversy

In the Circuit of the Americas paddock, Piastri was surprised to learn that Red Bull had admitted to having a device. "I didn't know that Red Bull admitted to it. it's not really for me to get involved in. I don't really honestly know much about it," the Australian said. Red Bull also added that it wasn't possible to use once the car was assembled.
"We're obviously pushing the boundaries of the technical regulations. Everyone is. That's what makes F1, F1. But from what I've heard and been told, something like this is not pushing the boundaries. It's clearly breaking them. I haven't heard which car it's on or if it's on any car, but if it is something that's being used, it's clearly not been pushing the boundaries. It's out of the grey area, into the black area," he continued.
Piastri was asked about whether it will aid McLaren going forward. "It's not really for me to speak about. It's one for Andrea [Stella] or Zak [Brown], really. So for me, try and drive as fast as I can. I think we'll see. If there's a big difference in performance, then clearly there'll be some questions. If it's not, you don't know. Our ‘mini DRS’, so to call it, was legal, but even though we've had to make some changes it's not revolutionary to the car. So we'll see if it makes any impact but it's one for Zak and Andrea," Piastri concluded.
