Fan injured by flying debris car Magnussen

A spectator at the Australian Grand Prix has been injured by a flying part of Kevin Magnussen's car, which hit the wall hard in the closing stages of the race. In the process, a piece of his car flew over the wall into the crowd, with an Australian fan sustaining injuries to his arm as a result.

On Monday morning, Will Sweet, the fan in question, realised how lucky he was. "The piece of debris was quite large," he told 7News in Australia. "Standing right next to me was my fiancée, and she's a bit smaller than me, so where it hit me in the arm, it probably would have hit her right in the head. I just feel lucky that it wasn’t any worse."

Haas driver Magnussen's accident happened in turn two at Albert Park. "“He [Magnussen] came around turn two, and he went down the track, I followed him with my eyes, so I’m looking to my right, and then straight ahead of me, apparently, a piece of debris had flown over the fence. Lots of people around me had moved, and it managed to hit me right in the arm. I’m not sure what happened, really.", said the bystander.

Bystanders, incidentally, did not initially care about Sweet. They were more concerned with the detached part and fought among themselves to get it as a souvenir. Sweet was immediately helped by ambulance personnel. He heard nothing from the race organisation.
